A large community, in number and quality of subscribers, is an immense source of visits and the quintessential feature of a successful YouTube channel. It’s no wonder we all want to have the maximum number of subscribers to our channel.

Well, I have good news for you: it is not that difficult to achieve it if you know how.

Now, before going into the “chicha” of this tutorial I want to sensitize you to an essential question in all this: here the phrase that “the important thing is not size” applies.

Naturally we want the maximum number of subscribers possible, that is what this post focuses on, but you have to be absolutely clear that those subscribers only have value if they are of quality.

What will you find here?

Why is having quality subscribers so important?

Attack!
A good subscriber base is a great source of direct traffic, but they are also an invaluable growth engine for your channel because these people will share your videos with other people and with that will make your channel grow even more. That’s obvious.

What, however, is less obvious, if you don’t have much experience yet, are the indirect consequences of having poor or good quality subscribers.

Why is it so important to have quality subscribers?
A quality subscriber is someone who really follows your topic with interest and trusts you.

These people are the ones who will share your videos, make comments and, in short, achieve that when you reach a threshold, your channel grows by itself, the famous snowball effect that, on the Internet, occurs in a particularly intense way when it happens.

What differentiates a good subscriber from a bad one
The other passive subscribers will simply be there, increasing the number of subscribers that the cover of your channel looks like, but beyond that, they will not contribute anything.

The thing is even clearer if we go to the economic effects. If you would like, apart from having fun, to generate income with your channel, again, this income will come almost exclusively from your most hooked subscribers.

Why?

I give you examples with different ways of monetization to see it:

If you recommend products using affiliate links to the websites of those products (which will generate commissions on purchases), the vast majority of those who will listen to your recommendations will be the subscribers who trust you. So much so, that there are even very grateful people wanting to return the favor using your affiliate links.
If we take the previous example to the field of own products (typically an online course, for example), the behavior will be, again, very similar. Since they trust you, they want your course, not the competition course, and again they will be happy to reward you for your work by paying you for it.
For this reason, a channel with a community of 1,000 subscribers with whom you are very connected (“engagement”) is much more powerful than one with 10,000 who don’t even know why they have subscribed.

Always keep this perspective in your head and don’t get obsessed or impatient with the absolute number of subscribers.

The famous first 4000 hours of viewing
An exception to what I just mentioned is the famous 4000 hours of viewing in the last 12 months and 1000 subscribers that Google requires you if you want to monetize your videos with YouTube ads (AdSense ads).

Here, attracting subscribers becomes a numerical question and you can benefit from rapid growth strategies like this very ingenious one that you can see in this video:

But be careful, do not forget that the subscribers that will generate you, usually are not going to interest you too much. Consider this nothing more than a trick to overcome a specific situation in which

It’s just about numbers.

Therefore, once you have achieved this goal, you should immediately return to the strategies to get quality subscribers.

The 10 keys to getting YouTube subscribers fast
Now that we have talked about the first determining factor for the success of your channel, the quality of the relationship with your subscribers, we have to talk about the second determining factor:

The subscription rate for your channel, that is, to what extent you are able to convert your visits into subscribers.

Here the crux of the matter will be to carry out as many actions as possible and that these are as effective as possible.

To do this, I have created a list of 10 points that, of all the advice that you can hear out there, seems to me the most important:

1. Be very clear about what demand you are going to satisfy
Any website, including YouTube channels, if it wants to be successful, needs a well-defined theme that meets a real demand.

If someone subscribes to your video, it is because that video and that topic interest them and they will expect to see more similar videos. If your videos deal with different topics every day without any relation, you will disappoint those expectations and lose your subscribers.

Therefore, measure the theme of your channel well and make it as clear as possible to your audience starting with the name and the cover of your channel.

2. Make a good first impression with your channel
The first impression the channel makes on you will weigh heavily in the decision to subscribe.

A channel with a shabby name, a shabby image, etc., does not motivate much. It is logical.

I’m not saying that you don’t get any subscribers like that, but, without a doubt, you will get many more with the same content if your channel has a good image.

So don’t neglect this aspect. To make it easy for you, here you can learn how to create a YouTube channel and give it a good image:

Creating a YouTube channel is very easy nowadays. ✅ Even making it “pretty” is easier than you think. Here I show you everything starting from scratch.

3. Try to differentiate yourself as much as possible
There are already many people with YouTube channels, in all kinds of topics. It is very likely that other YouTubers are already doing the same or something very similar to what you want to do.

Does this mean you should throw in the towel?

Not.

How many different themed channels have you watched and watch videos on?

Many, yes?

This is proof that, no matter how many channels there are, there is always room for new authors as long as you contribute something of yours that others have not contributed and that it makes you not a simple copy of what already exists.

That is, it is essential to differentiate yourself.

I want it now!
The good news is that differentiating yourself is less complicated than it may seem. Just because of your personality and way of transmitting, you are going to differentiate yourself naturally. Therefore, my advice is to enhance this, just be yourself, being authentic is a very important first step in the right direction.

But, in addition to this, it is good to actively work on differentiating yourself from other channels.

There are many ways to do it: specialize, how you make and present your content, the image of your channel and your videos, your personal image, the visual and audio quality of your videos, through free downloads that accompany your videos, etc. etc. etc.

4. Make quality videos
This is very simple: if your videos are bad, you will not go anywhere. The offer is so wide that users will be a click or two away from a better alternative.

Therefore, today, quality is not optional. And this also includes taking care of the visual and audio quality.

Here are two posts, one that explains how to make good quality video with modest means and another that already enters more professional media:

How to Start Making Great Videos Today – Complete Guide
Video is sweeping YouTube, Facebook Live, etc. You can start with a simple mobile. But you have to know how to do it for a good result.

5. Be constant in publishing your videos
As I said at the beginning, when someone subscribes to your channel it is because they have the expectation of receiving more videos like the one that motivated them to subscribe initially.

But this expectation the user

or it is not only with the subject (new videos on that subject), but also with the frequency with which they are published.

If you don’t upload videos on a regular basis, your subscribers will get tired of waiting and will end up abandoning you.

6. Work on the visibility of each video
Visits to your channel and subscribers are like the chicken and egg problem.

How to get subscribers if you don’t have visits? And how to get visits without subscribers?

Luckily, it’s easy to break this vicious circle here because you can get traffic if you know how to position your videos in the YouTube search engine.

This, with the right strategies, can be done efficiently and in a short time even in newly created channels.

There are two magic words: “SEO” and “long tail” and no, the latter is not what you think 🙂

This post tells you everything you need to learn:

seo youtube get visits
SEO for YouTube: How to position your videos and get many more visits
The vast majority of YouTubers don’t do SEO. That is a great opportunity for you. ✅ Only with basic SEO you will pass them by like a rocket 🙂

7. Connect with your community and take care of it
People like to interact with people.

Therefore, the more you manage to connect with your audience, the more subscribers you will generate.

The best advice I can give you is to be you, with your strengths and weaknesses, that will make them perceive you as an authentic person and you will naturally connect with your audience.

It will also cause people to dislike you, but it is not a bad thing. It is life itself, not in real life, nor here we can be liked by everyone, nor is it necessary.

Now, those virtues that you think favor the connection with your audience (your talent to explain things, your sense of humor, etc.) exploit them to the fullest.

Joaquín from the EFE Uno channel Joaquín is a good example of an authentic person who generates engagement in a natural way:

And if, in addition, you can dedicate time to taking care of the relationship with your community (answering comments, etc.), better than better.

8. Listen to your community
Actively listen to your community, that is, take some time to review the comments you receive on your videos and respond to at least part of it.

It is a very smart way to listen to your community because you kill two birds with one stone: you do that important work of interaction with your community, but, on the other hand, you will detect concerns and demands.

These concerns and demands are the best basis you can have to create new content because you will already know that content will be very well accepted and that it will transmit to your community that feeling that you are listening to them and offering what they demand.

9. Collaborate with other YouTubers
Collaborations can be very effective in getting new subscribers in a short time.

Look for other channels of a size not too different from yours and propose a collaboration in order to introduce each other to your respective communities with some guest content (such as guest posts on blogs).

At the end of the video, you recommend to follow the guest’s channel. It’s that simple 🙂

10. Make calls to action
The tenth key is calls to action.

This is very important because a typical behavior of Internet users is that, if you do not explicitly tell them to do something you want them to do, they will not do it.

Applied to us: if you don’t tell them to subscribe, most won’t subscribe, even if they loved your channel, simply because they didn’t think about it at the time.

You can basically do two things:

Make a call to action in the video: Encourage people with a tagline at the end of the video (and in the middle if you can put it naturally) to subscribe to your channel.
Use final screens: this is a YouTube functionality that allows you to refer to other videos and also put the channel logo to subscribe users.
This is an example of a final screen, you have already seen them a lot of times:

example end screen youtube
Example of a YouTube end screen.

How to get your first 100 subscribers
The vast majority of the readers who enter this post are just starting out and will have zero or very few subscribers (less than 100).

This is a very difficult stage because your channel has no traction and you still have few resources due to your lack of experience. You post a video and basically nothing happens, maybe you get 10 or 20 views and from there, they come with an eyedropper.

At that rate it is impossible to grow.

What can you do?

Here the solution will go through key No. 6 (get visibility with SEO), which is the best way to get out of this vicious circle when you are at the beginning.

I advise you a small strategy composed of these three steps:

Start by investing some time in the image of your channel (key Nº 2) to c

give the best possible impression to your visits. We want to capture the maximum number of subscribers between the visits that come to us.
Search, within your theme, highly demanded topics and explore the long queue that is explained in the SEO post on YouTube to which I refer above. Get at least 5-10 ideas for specific videos from here. Work on each of them thoroughly at the SEO level to position it.
Move the published videos also everything in your hands on social networks. Search for groups on Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc. that could be related to share your videos (yes, without spamming …), talk to the maximum number of friends and acquaintances with a presence on social networks so that they can share them (repeatedly), etc., etc., etc.
And remember that you can also use “creative” strategies like the one explained in the section above about the famous 4000 hours of viewing.

The best trick to grow exponentially on YouTube
Once your channel begins to grow in number of subscribers, things will get easier and easier because the subscribers themselves are the ones who will have more and more weight in the dissemination of your new videos.

The more subscribers you have, the more subscribers you will get, the famous “snowball” effect.

Once certain thresholds of visibility have been reached, very powerful things can be done, here the limit will only be your creativity.

Of all the actions to get subscribers that I have seen, the most effective I have seen is running a giveaway.

And if not, ask, for example, Romuald Fons who went from an account with less than 5,000 subscribers at the end of 2016 to more than 20,000 in one month 🙂

Here you can see more details about what that epic Romuald giveaway was like:

But beware, here too a smart strategy is needed, if not, it won’t work.

And be careful, if you still do not have that visibility on YouTube, it also helps if you have it on the other hand: a blog with a lot of traffic (hundreds or thousands of daily visits), a powerful Instagram account, etc.

Even if you don’t have that visibility anywhere, things can be done.

It is not unreasonable to think, for example, about using online advertising, it can be very worth it, although it has the disadvantage that creating campaigns that work is not trivial, so, once again, you have to learn new things.

To get an idea, take a look here:

what is facebook ads
What is Facebook Ads, what is it for and how does it work
Facebook Ads has become for many their preferred online advertising platform due to the spectacular returns on investment that can be achieved with it. Find out in this post what Facebook Ads is, why it works so well and what are the keys to obtaining these good results.

Seen how to reach many people, we have to talk about the second fundamental condition for this to work: your giveaway has to be aligned with the subscriber profile that you are interested in capturing for your channel.

In other words, you don’t comment on the blunder of simply getting around an iPad.

What I mean by this?

Well, everyone wants an iPad, therefore, everyone will sign up for this raffle. A priori, it seems like a good idea.

But are you really interested in having all those people on your list?

I already answered you: you are not interested.

You should only attract people genuinely interested in the theme of your channel, the rest do not interest you at all. You are not interested because they will not be active, they will not follow your new videos, nor will you be able to do anything with them. And let’s not talk about selling them things anymore.

How to do it right?

You must avoid something as close as possible to the audience you want to capture. Something that, so to speak, “defines” that audience as precisely as possible.

Example: if your channel is for car tuning, draw something that is only of interest to this group. For example: a kit of very useful products that everyone who does tuning uses.

On the other hand, do not be crappy, if you are a bit generous (let’s say you raffle something worth € 250, for example) you will have very good options to create a viral effect if you then spread the word well, spread the word forums and specialized social networks, etc.

And finally, in order for participants to become subscribers, make it very clear that it will be drawn exclusively among subscribers. If, in addition, you have a blog with a mailing list, consider also setting the condition of signing up for your blog as well.

Why your subscribers should NOT stay on YouTube
Now I sure have left you puzzled, right? 😀

We have been talking all the time about getting subscribers and generating engagement, and now I drop this phrase.

How do you eat this?

Very easy:

Many YouTubers completely overlook a very important detail: they don’t realize that their subscribers are not theirs.

Yes, you read that correctly: the subscribers to your channel are not yours. They are not because they are from YouTube.

Think about it: do you

Who exactly is each one? Can you address them directly how and when you want, for example, with an email?

No right?

You only know that they are people with a Google account and you can post new videos so that they are notified of your new video, you cannot send them even a simple email to contact them.

In other words, YouTube controls the relationship with your channel’s subscribers at will and can change its policies in this regard at any time.

In fact, precisely here there has been controversy in recent months because Google is modifying the organic scope of notifications for new videos.

They no longer reach the emails of all subscribers (only those who activate the famous bell). As you can imagine, this has caused quite a stir among YouTubers.

That’s why I say that the subscribers are not yours, they are from YouTube.

How to remedy this?

Fortunately, there is an effective solution to this problem: mailing lists.

You should get as many YouTube subscribers as you can to your mailing list.

Ideally, this mailing list integrated with a blog to have landing pages with the “hooks”, the free incentives for users to sign up.

If you need hosting for your website or your blog, act!

Hostinger: 90% off here
SiteGround: 54% off here
Webempresa: with a 25% discount here
Raiola Networks: with a 20% discount here
Notice: SiteGround offer expires in a few days.

Anyway, although I highly recommend putting your list together with a blog, it is not strictly necessary. It is also possible to integrate a link for registration directly in the description of the videos on YouTube.

And, if you don’t know what a mailing list is, this post explains what it is and how to create a powerful mailing list with a good email marketing tool, and all completely free:

tutorial header mailrelay wordpress
Mega-Tutorial: Email Marketing with Mailrelay and WordPress
Mailrelay is one of the very few tools with a free plan + autoresponder ➤ Here you will learn how to do email marketing with Mailrelay and WordPress.

The million dollar question now is: how do we get our subscribers to this list?

Of their own accord (if you simply ask them in a video, for example) only very few will sign up. What you need is a good incentive to motivate them.

I’m going to give you three ideas:

A traditional “lead magnet”: this would be a wedge in your videos saying that in the description they can download something of value (a checklist, templates, a private video, etc.) and to do so, they have to go through the registration in your list (directly or via a blog).
A dedicated video: the same as in the previous point, but publishing one or more videos dedicated to it. In these videos you present the lead magnet (s) and why they are worth getting it and being on your list.
Take advantage of when you do a giveaway: as I suggested above, if you run a giveaway to gain new subscribers on YouTube, simply add the condition that you are also subscribers to your mailing list.
Frequent doubts, resolved
We have seen a lot of strategies, so you already have to give the nerd a good time 🙂

To finish the post, I want to finish it off by also answering very briefly some common questions related to YouTube subscribers that people often ask.

How much does YouTube pay for each subscriber?
YouTube doesn’t pay for subscribers, YouTube pays for clicks on its ads. More details below.

How much does YouTube pay for every 1000 visits?
Strictly, YouTube also does not pay for the number of visits you receive, as I said, it pays for the clicks on its ads.

But the revenue metric per 1,000 visits is often used as an order of magnitude to assess the performance of ads in a niche channel.

The figures are highly variable, highly dependent on the niche, the country in which the video is viewed, and other factors.

A typical income bracket for every 1,000 views is roughly between 0.20 cents and € 3, depending on the factors I have discussed.

If you do numbers, you will see that this route will only be really profitable if you have millions of visits.

Here is a video that gives you a very complete overview of the topic of income on YouTube:

As you can see in this video, the “real” income is usually outside of YouTube: in the sale of digital products such as online courses, in affiliate marketing and in collaboration with brands in general.

How can I see my subscribers on YouTube and how are they growing?
YouTube incorporates analytical tools that give you very detailed information about visits, subscribers, income, etc.

You can access this information from the “Creator Studio” in your YouTube account:

youtube analytics
Summary of statistical information in the control panel

Creator Studio role.

How to see subscribers in real time on YouTube?
If you want to see in real time how the subscribers of any channel are growing, I recommend the Social Blade tool.

In this link, you can see, for example, the statistics of “Rubius”, the famous Spanish YouTubers that, according to this BBC article, would be more popular than Beyoncé and Lady Gaga together …

statistics real time rubius
The real-time subscriber count of the «Rubius».

Yes, I warn you that watching this counter for more than 10 minutes poses a serious risk of depression for deadly YouTubers J

Does buying subscribers for YouTube work?
No, it does not work. They are not even people, here what they will sell you will be false accounts with false activity in computer farms.

clickfarm example
These are your purchased “subscribers” (image of a Chinese “click farm”).

Except as a dirty trick to overcome the requirements for YouTube partners, it is worth nothing, I refer to the first section of this post that talks about the importance of your subscribers being of quality.

In addition, YouTube is already very good at detecting these types of things and, either, it will delete them, or it can even penalize you for it.

Who are the YouTubers with the most subscribers in Spain?
If you want to keep up to date with who are the YouTubers with the most subscribers, whether they are Spanish or from any other country, I also recommend the Social Blade website. Here you will find this information always updated.

Here is an excerpt of what you can find on this website with the 10 Spanish YouTubers with the most subscribers at the time of writing this post:

top spanish youtubers list
The 10 Spanish YouTubers with the most subscribers in autumn 2018.

It should be noted that they totally dominate the gaming and humor channels, a trend that you will also find in many other countries.

But you will also find many channels in the order of hundreds of thousands, even millions on more “serious” topics such as science, online marketing, health, entrepreneurship, etc.

Attack!
When you see these latest figures and, knowing that there are already a huge number of channels on all kinds of topics, you may be left with the impression that YouTube is already “petado” and that for new authors there is not much cake to share.

Not at all, there are still plenty of opportunities on YouTube.

That there are so many people, channels with astronomical numbers of subscribers, etc. It is precisely a sign of YouTube’s effervescence and in such a dynamic place there are always many opportunities for new proposals that have something to contribute.

The fact of the matter is simply that, to be successful, you need to be strategic and rigorous in applying that strategy. That is, follow the guidelines that I just explained.

If you choose a good theme, create good content, apply the strategies that I have told you about and give it the desire and hours that this requires, with the necessary time, I guarantee that your channel can be another success story that exceeds the 10,000 subscribers, 100,000 or who knows if even more.

So go for it!
